Abstract:

Seasonal changes in the population and the activity of adult green leafhoppers, Nephotettix virescens and N. nigropictus were studied on light trap using 200 watt incandescent bulb at Raipur during kharif, 1983-85. The major activity of both the species of hoppers was from September to November with highest catch in October in all the years. The weekly population curve and frequency of peaks in the trap catches indicated possibility of completion of 4 to 5 generations during kharif season (July to December). The female dominance in sex ratio was always observed in both the hoppers. Data revealed a significant linear and positive correlation between the light trap catch and field population of adult hoppers with 'r' value exceeding 0.65 in all the years.
